CARIN’s mission is to foster the entrepreneurial spirit that is present in Central Alberta and help technology and knowledge-based companies move from idea to export in a faster, more seamless way.



The Goal:


Our goal is to add diversity to the Central Alberta economy through the support and promotion of companies seeking innovations in smart agriculture, advanced manufacturing, and energy, among other sectors. CARIN’s members offer advisory on many different fronts; from mentoring to exporting, to help you find funding, there is a CARIN member that can help your business grow.

 

Startup Development Phases


How do you take a great idea to a successful business? The Catalyst Incubator can help you through this process. There are many sources of funding to help start and grow your company. CARIN can help you navigate this area. From idea to export, a new incubator to help build new business in Central Alberta. The following steps are from Alberta Innovates and are very helpful to understand the process from development and start-up to scaling and growth.

  1. Discover – This is the formation of your idea. Discovering your idea and dreaming of its potential innovation in the market.

  2. Ideating – Entrepreneurialambition and/or scalable product or service for a big enough target market. How does your idea create value?

  3. Conceptualizing – Defining your mission and vision. Developing a strategic plan with key milestone goals for the next few years and how to get there.

  4. Committing – The team is committed to the goal with a shared mission, vision, values, and attitude. Able to develop the initial product or service version.

  5. Validating – Iterating and testing assumptions for validated solution to demonstrate initial user growth and/or revenue. Initial key performance indicators (KPI’s) were identified. Start to attract additional resources from investments, loans, interest, or revenue share from future revenues.

  6. Scaling – Focus on KPI based measurement growth in users, customers, and revenues and market share in a fast-growing target market. Attracted significant funding or would be able to do so if wanted. Hiring, improving quality, and implementing processes.

  7. Establishing – Achieved growth that can be expected to continue. Easily attract financial and people resources. Founders and/or investors might exit or continue with the company.

  8. Leading – Continued growth in the market and a leading the industry.

In Alberta, we are lucky to have so many resources at our fingertips to help start, finance and build a company. An incubator is a program to help identify and accelerate the most promising startups.
